In this concert, star oboist Nicholas Daniel is truly given space to shine. The evening opens with Copland’s rhythmic Buckaroo Holiday from the ballet Rodeo, before the musicians take on Arnold Bax’s lyrical oboe quintet. The first half concludes with Louis Moreau Gottschalk’s virtuosic Union, in which pianist MacKenzie Melemed shows what he’s made of.
After the interval the audience is awaited by two colorful gems by Nicky Sohn and Ravel, with the oboe taking center stage. The concert is rounded off with Mahler’s famous Piano Quartet, known among other things from the film Shutter Island.
Free admission for children under 15, subject to availability.
